Surge Paddle

High-Performance Modular Paddle for White-Water, Touring & Bike-Rafting

Engineered for demanding packrafters, the Surge is a modular paddle system designed to deliver maximum power, control, and adaptability across white-water, open water, and bike-rafting scenarios. Developed in collaboration with  Marianne and Jason Taylor of Tirio—authors of Packrafting: A UK Manual—the Surge reflects years of coaching experience and personal expedition knowledge in diverse packrafting environments.

Technical Specifications:

  • Shaft:
    • Material: 100% unidirectional carbon fibre for optimal stiffness-to-weight ratio.
    • Diameter: 29 mm cylindrical shaft with ergonomic indexing (left or right).
    • Length Adjustment: Leverlok® ferrule system with 10 cm range (205–215 cm).
    • Feather Angle: Fully adjustable (0°–90°) in both directions.
    • Floatation: Integrated closed-cell foam inserts for buoyancy in capsize scenarios.
    • End Caps: Reinforced polymer caps to prevent abrasion and protect gear during transit.
  • Blades:
    • Material: Compression-moulded carbon fibre.
    • Shape: Asymmetrical offset blade with high surface area for aggressive catch.
    • Profile: Dihedral power face for smooth water flow and reduced flutter.
    • Dimensions: Approx. 47 cm length × 18 cm width.
    • Weight: ~850–900 g (depending on configuration).

Performance Highlights:

  • Optimized for White-Water: The offset blade design delivers immediate power in the early stroke phase, ideal for technical manoeuvres and quick acceleration.
  • Short Stroke Efficiency: Designed to accommodate reduced paddle clearance when bike-rafting or in tight quarters.
  • Yaw Reduction: Blade geometry allows closer water entry near the hull, minimizing zig-zag motion and maximizing forward drive.
  • Modular Utility: Compatible with tarp/tent setups and replaceable components for field repairs.
